Thompson Elementary kicks off Thompson Reads! for the 2020-2021 School Year

Thompson Cougars were excited to kick off another year of Thompson Reads!, the school's daily initiative to grow strong readers.

Started last year, Thompson Reads! provides dedicated time each day for the students to read for pleasure. During this time, students relax and enjoy any school appropriate book of their choosing. They aren't the only ones reading, though! All Thompson staff members join in on the fun, making the promise to read something that interests them as well. Teachers and staff members without a homeroom class take this time to visit classes around the school and share what they're reading.

With the addition of remote learning to the school year, the program was expanded to encourage families to join in on the reading.  Students and families can choose to read as a family, read on their own, or they can read with their classmates by logging on to the morning meetings at 7:40.

In the first week of Thompson Reads, we've seen more and more students logging on early every day to share the books they're reading and see what their teachers are reading as well.
